Value added has the following criteria: Calves that are weaned a minimum of 45 days, if bulls castrated, with two rounds of vaccines. Vaccines must include a blackleg vaccine, respiratory vaccine that covers BVD, IBR, PI3, pasteurella/mannheimia haemolytica vaccine, and some type of wormer. Typically cattle buyers prefer a Modified Live type of respiratory vaccine since the immune response tends to be stronger and longer lasting. Calves that meet all of this criteria usually will receive a $.10-.$.12 increase in market value.
